I made no secret of my hopes that we’d enjoy a white Christmas in recent days. But forecasts weren’t especially confidence inspiring. Nor were the day-to-day conditions. But nature has smiled upon us!
Remember this recent sentiment?
A white Christmas is what many of us in the North Country conjure in our imaginations as December 25th approaches. Our anticipation measures the day-to-day against picture perfect points of reference. Ground buried in white snow. Trees and buildings frosted like gingerbread houses with more snow. A… snow-simplified white world… You know what I’m referring to, right? Sometimes, however, our rural runway for the incoming holiday season is less snowy. Less storybook… (Source: Foxy Festivus)
And another snow-conjuring sentiment.
When rumors of rain — and not just rumors, unfortunately — challenge winter wonderland wishes with less than two weeks until Christmas, something has to happen.

I conclude this daily dispatch with two photographs — meteorological pump primers?! — from one decade ago, a far snowier prequel to yesterday’s rain, rain, rain. (Source: Rumors of Rain)
Turns out that kindling a little optimism (and priming proverbial pump) just might have helped catalyze the first white Christmas is a few years. Hurrah!
Not exactly a blizzard, but welcome nonetheless. More *suggestion* of snow than wax-the-skis snowstorm. But so pretty. So white Christmas-y. And for one mysterious passerby, it was plenty of snow for a perfectly executed snow angel on our front yard. A propitious holiday omen, don’t you think?!
With our white Christmas wishes answered, it’s tempting to wonder whether additional wishes are warranted. Sensing a streak, perhaps. Or is this a subtle test — humility or hubris — being offered unceremoniously by the universe?!
A very merry white Christmas to you. And to everyone who helps make Rosslyn the center of of lovely life. Thank you. ¡Feliz Navidad!
