Next up in our extended season of gratitude is Aaron Valachovic. I’ve recently chronicled his exceptional execution of tricky tree work, (“Fallen Giant”, “Stump-to-Lumber”, and “Aerial Arborist Haiku”), but Aaron’s input is no longer limited to tree work. It’s time I recognize the remarkable contribution he’s been making over the last four months. Thank you, Aaron!
Late this summer Aaron came by to review several trees that needed attention. Next thing you know, he’d agreed not just to take care of the trees, but also to help us build stone walls around the new icehouse terrace, prep the site (“Mighty Muscle, Mini Machine”) and lay stone pavers, and even assist with several other pressing items on the icehouse rehab punch list.
In short, Aaron agreed to dilate his involvement well beyond the work that he’s done for me in the past as an arborist.
Growing up, Aaron was exposed to the trades working for his father’s construction company, S&R Construction. And building his own home, Aaron continued to refine the sort of detailed, hands-on craftsmanship and problem solving that has been serving us well at Rosslyn this autumn.
Aaron’s brother, Phil Valachovic, who has helped us with site work, driveway construction, helical pier installation, trucking/transport and a whole lot more over the years, recommended Aaron when I needed a quick turnaround arborist for a couple of small projects at ADK Oasis Lakeside back in the fall of 2020 or the spring of 2021.
I was impressed with Aaron from the moment I met him. He is reserved but smart, insightful, and inquisitive. He listens, skips unnecessary verbiage and bravado, asks penetrating questions, and finally weighs in with astute observations and suggestions. He’s a gifted collaborator, keenly aware of team dynamics, who catalyzes steady, collegial, industrious headway on whatever task he tackles.
Aaron’s investment in our trees and Rosslyn’s icehouse hardscaping is one of many reasons we’re privileged to have enjoyed his increasing commitment. I sincere hope we’ll continue to enjoy his teamwork in the months and years ahead. Thank you, Aaron!
