After a hiatus spanning many months — more than half a year — Supi and Peter return to re-railing the boathouse gangway, and after three days their progress is encouraging.
And the photograph above Peter is installing the post sleeves that he fabricated offsite last autumn and early winter. The railings and balusters are fabricated that as well. But, as you may recall, Supi and Peter temporarily joined the icehouse team last autumn, and then they returned full time in the new year.
So Rosslyn’s boathouse gangway repairs stalled once again. But with luck this portion of the project will wrap up almost exactly two years from when it was originally supposed to begin. That false start, repeatedly delayed by the OPUD — 20/20 hindsight revealed that this was the OPUD’s signature — offered a parade reasons and opportunities to pull the plug. But we ignored the advice of many and extended chance after chance. It turned out to be an overabundance of patience and generosity on our part (and a tremendously expensive miscalculation!) Live and learn…
Three days into Peter and Supi’s return to re-railing, the post sleeves are installed and secured after corrections were made for twisting of the posts during the winter and spring. And the first two sections of railing and balusters are installed and looking oh-so fine. Eureka!
I look forward to posting additional updates as this project finally glides into the finish line. Thank you, Supi and Peter.
