A Labrador retriever is not generally considered a lap dog. But Carley would disagree.
She’s well enough trained to know better. Most of the time. All of the time with guests. But early in the morning when it’s just the two of us, she’ll occasionally give me that look that says, “May I come up and pretend to be a lap dog?”

So a postprandial snooze it is. And for a little while this breakfast-drunk lab is a welcome lap dog. She weighs double her normal weight, less for the calories she’s ingested than her total relaxation, draped across my lap.
While she may not look the part, Carley is, in fact, a lap dog. A burley bear of a lap dog!
