Huzzah! Today we celebrate the newest addition to our collection of Rosslyn boathouse artwork. Painted by Katje McIntyre, acquired from the Adirondack Art Association, framed by Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery, and displayed in the morning room, this vibrant version offers a fresh take on a familiar subject. Katje McIntyre’s boathouse painting enlivens Rosslyn’s timeless waterfront with a zestier and more capricious take on the lakeside dock house long ago constructed to accommodate the Kestrel.
This colorful acquisition reimagines the structure’s subtle tan palette with mustardy accents contrasted against a barn red roof. The lakeside double doors (and shadows) are milky teal, echoing the dark teal lake surrounding the 19th century folly.
Such a fun, lighthearted composition! Here it is in situ adorning the west wall above my brother’s cherry bench.
Over the years this room evolved into a gallery showcasing local artist’s renderings of Rosslyn’s boathouse (and at least one other Rosslyn building.) Such a variety of perspectives and interpretations. Guests always enjoy comparing the artwork, inquiring about the artists, and asking us what we’ll do with the collection if we sell Rosslyn some day. Will we keep the art to remember our time here? Will we offer it to our property’s subsequent stewards?
Questions for another day. For now we enjoy shuffling boathouse paintings and photographs around the morning room, experimenting with what best complements what. So many choices…
And so many sidebars about artists, meandering memories, and anecdotes that patina with the passage of time. Among Rosslyn’s boathouse renderings, Katje McIntyre’s boathouse painting is a sure tie for our top favorite!

Thank you. You’ve made my day! Such generous complements. I’m profoundly flattered and eager to return your generosity. Your art is an important part of our beloved Essex. (And we have one of your New Mexico paintings in our Santa Fe home as well!)
