Brandon wrapped up the icehouse interior lighting early last summer. I was thrilled. Much planning. Much micromanagement. Much collaboration with Brandon who helped devise (and implement) some creative lighting solutions for this unique environment. But I immediately noticed a problem in need of an illumination tweak.
To be precise the tweak was to resolve an issue with the Gracie Linear Sconce (designed by Chapman & Myers) that you can see in the photograph above centered over the pedestal sink. This unique nickel light was intended to offer a direct source of overhead light at the sink, but it was in advertently wired into the same circuit as the recessed ceiling lights. I should probably be a little more clear. There are actually two circuits for the overhead lighting, one for the majority of the room, and the other one switched independently for the shower. The over-sink lighting was switched with the main recessed ceiling light. That circuit is on a dimmer, and unfortunately, there is too big a difference in the lighting spectrum for the recessed lights and the sconce.
So Brandon made a helpful adjustment. The Gracie sconce is now switched independently at the sink. If brushing teeth or shaving or putting on make up, it can independently be turned on independently to add additional task lighting.
And in order to keep the space tidy, we have converted the existing sink outlet to meet the code requirements and minimize the need for an additional switch. This dual purpose switch/outlet is tidy and super practical.
Way to go, Brandon!
