Solitary sunflower swaying in the wind, heliotropic head heavy with seeds swelling slowly. Massive blooms high overhead in our wildflower bed, stalks thick as tree trunks. A vast field of sunflowers, cropped by a nearby farmer, acres upon acres of joyful laughter.
As an unabashed heliocentrist I’m drawn to… the rising sun and the setting sun. Sunup. Sundown. Conjoined. Sunup-sundown. (Source: Double Sunburst)
Sunflowers — whether solo or swimming in a sea of supersized Brown Eyed Susans — appeal to my heliotropic nature. Following the sunshine star from morning to evening, miraculously migrating their immense blooms moment-to-moment, never lagging, never lost, sunflowers track their celestial reflection without fail.
As September ripens, I too yield to the solar pull, moving toward the warmth and light.
