With boats launching tomorrow and Saturday, today was our last chance to launch the docks and boat lift. And, thanks to the outstanding work of Glen, Tony, Supi, Erik, Tomasi, and Calvin, the docks are in!
Despite drizzle and dauntingly dark skies, the team hit the ground running at 8:00 AM this morning.
Inauspicious conditions notwithstanding, this hardy crew hauled dock section after dock section from winter storage west of the barns down to Rosslyn’s waterfront.
Once at the waterfront they wrestled the clunky hardware up and over the guardrail and down the lakeside bank to the beach.
In the chilly rain, section by section, they readied the aluminum dock components for installation.
Teamwork. Camaraderie. Laughter. Beneath threatening skies this crew never let up and never abandoned their sense of humor.
And then… a glimmer of sunlight.
Positioning the dock sections combined dry land manipulation with ropes and bravely wading through 69° water.
Section by section, assembling Rosslyn’s dock sections is as much art as science!
But little by little our dock system began to take shape.
Once the sections are located correctly and secured to one another, it’s time to adjust legs to level the surface.
My nephew, Erik, is hand adjusting one of the leg lengths below. It’s tempting to use a power driver to raise/lower the legs, but we insist on hand adjusting in order to avoid stripping the gears. Slower, but more reliable.
Once the docks were all set, it was time to move the boat lift from the beach. Heavy. Awkward. And even tougher when wading in water.
And yet all six plunged into the cold lake to haul the clunky boat lift into location so that it’s ready for Saturday’s launch.
A few final tweaks and adjustments to wrap things up…
And then, we’re all set for the 2024 boating season.
Huge thanks to Glen, Tony, Supi, Erik, Tomasi, and Calvin. The docks are in!
