Decembering conjures all sorts of youthful wonder, eggnog fueled exuberance, outdoor adventure, and a familiar optimism that we can alchemize hopes into holidays and daydreams into reality? Sound familiar? I sure hope so!
And when Decembering announces its intentions with a fresh frosting of snow, then I know we’re heading into a jolly holiday season. Yes, even when it’s more suggestion than snowstorm…
Sloppy snowflakes today, the slightly surreal sort, like shaking a snow globe, and watching gravity restore order… Tomorrow, we’ll illuminate Christmas lights in Rosslyn’s windows and the boathouse. The holiday season will feel official then, and I’ll no longer have to sneak-listen to Christmas carols. (Source: Nostos: Return Home)
That was yesterday’s meteorological mentioned, and today didn’t follow-up that initial tease with much more snow. But it’s early yet.
In recent years December has given us our first real blast of winter. A premature blast usually because early December snows have tended to melt by Christmas… (Source: December 2014: Photo Retrospective)
It’d strain credulity to call our current snow — scarcely more than a dusting — a “blast of winter”. Holiday hyperbole. I’ll restrain myself (despite willing winter wonderland conditions as we draw closer to Christmas!)
And instead of snow, let’s celebrate another threshold. Teddi and Pam delved into Decembering with welcoming entrance decorations that practically hum Christmas carols, especially once the sun sets.
In addition to the seasonal display flanking Rosslyn’s front entrance and windows once again illuminated with candles, the boathouse offers a lakeside beacon to ferry passengers (and soon enough to Santa himself!)
With Decembering now underway, it’s officially okay to blast Christmas carols from sunup-to-sundown. Sorry, Susan!
Thanks, Pam and Teddi, for spiffing us up. It looks great!
