Create. Create often. Creativity is life‘s “secret sauce”! Create a home, a poem, an experimental Thanksgiving dinner dish, a musical composition, an adventure, a doodle, a nature trail, a sculpture, a vegetable garden, or a collection of curios. Whether you’re conjuring something from nothing or remixing elements already in existence (ie. combinatorial creativity), the best wellness supplement available is creativity. After all, creativity nurtures your soul!
Nobody will stop you from creating. Do it tonight. Do it tomorrow. That is the way to make your soul grow. — Kurt Vonnegut
Vonnegut knew a thing or two about creativity, and I can personally vouch for the soul nourishing, life balancing, imagination stretching, optimism kindling merits of an ongoing creative practice. Couldn’t live without it!
This mellow, dramatic, or maybe merely melodramatic snapshot was recorded on November 25, 2013 in the room that, back before the icehouse rehab, served as my office. Today this guest bedroom is less cluttered with with notebooks, stacks of papers, artwork, and artifacts. Pity! After all creative cross-pollination and combinatorial creativity thrive when dissimilar bits and pieces are allowed to coalesce…
The hand in the foreground, a ceramic sculpture, missing a digit, was gifted to me by a former student. The 12-lite window sash, the wavy glass, the formal fence, the pockmarked lake mirroring an almost impossibly color soaked sky, the gloaming patina’ing everything, EVERYthing, and a dozen or more other subtle ingredients – some intended, some accidental – feed my spirit.
Give it a shot. After all, creativity nurtures your soul!
