Just returned from a crisp 21° ramble with friend and Rosslyn wildlife steward, John Davis. Our mission was to replace batteries and memory cards in the wildlife cameras while checking out Tony’s trail maintenance. Back inside, rubbing circulation back into my toes, I can confirm that 1) I should be able post some new wildlife images soon, and 2) our backland byways are better than ever!
Thank you, Tony. And thank you, John.
When this afternoon outing was originally scheduled we’d planned on cross-country skiing. But La Niña had other plans. Good news? Perfect, dry powder. Bad news? Barely enough snow to whiten surfaces, and nowhere near enough to glide smoothly on skis.
But we inspected Rosslyn’s backland byways, identified gray fox and coyote tracks, talked and walked enough to keep two middle-aged guys warm-ish, freshened batteries and memories, lamented the lack of *real* winter conditions, schemed up future adventures, and praised the hard work of Tony and Glen. Pretty productive Thursday afternoon, and it sure beat driving a desk!
Stay tuned for critter cameos soon, and maybe one of these days I’ll be able to share a new photo after a cross-country ski with Carley. La Niña be damned! Until then, a flashback photo of Griffin 13 years ago after burning big calories skiing our backland byways on a significantly snowier afternoon.
What do you think?
