Heading off to New Year’s Eve celebration shortly, but first pausing to remember Rosslyn year endings, eighteen December 31sts, I come upon these images of our friend, Elaine Miller. With only hours to go before “Auld Lang Syne”, this NYE primer was working away preparing our hallway walls for pale yellow-white paint.
It was December 31, 2007, and it was our second NYE as the owners of Rosslyn. Another year of relentless rehab would be necessary before we’d be able to move in. And even then work would not be totally complete.
And so, as so many Scots have sung, we take a moment now to remember those who’ve been a part of this adventure. For auld lang syne we salute and celebrate. For Elaine’s persistent priming into the final hours of the year, helping advance progress, helping whittle down the scope of work, and always helping buoy moral with her smile and warm laugh.
As we prepare ourselves for a festive evening, to bid farewell to 2024, to greet 2025, and to sing “Auld Lang Syne” into the darkness, I offer Elaine a quick cameo to recall what a privilege it was to collaborate so often between 2006 and 2008 in those looong days of historic rehab. Thank you, Elaine!
