We wish you a hot and happy Independence Day! As so often over the years, we celebrated with family and friends, starting with the 4th of July parade.
There’s no finer time to live in a small town in America than on the 4th of July. Essex, New York offers the quintessential Independence Day parade experience, straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting! (Source: Independence Day Parade)
Our Essex 4th of July parade boasts an almost endless succession of candy throwing celebrants and red, white, and blue festooned vehicles.
Farm wagons and tractors costumed as patriotic floats idle north of town where officials orchestrate the parade’s start. Antique cars and farm implements, an impressive menagerie of emergency vehicles,… Sirens wail… Horses carry proud equestrians. Veterans march and bear standards. A band plays. Politicos toss candy and promises. Bystanders snap photographs and point or scramble for Tootsie Rolls and caramels. (Source: Independence Day Parade)
Independence Day is almost a boating day for us, but this today’s July 4th parade merged both midsummer highlights with an amphibious boat car!
This not-so-subtle reminder that the heat would be more bearable once we swapped our colorful costumes for bathing suits inspired us all to enjoy a revitalizing lunch and then head out onto Lake Champlain for swimming and wake surfing behind the new boat.
Now off to the icehouse for lawn games followed by a barbecue supper. Happy 4th of July to you from all of us at Rosslyn!
